How to Read the I Ching Online
A short guide to three-coin casting on this site.
- Optional question
Write a clear question if you wish (max 500 characters). The question never enters the URL and does not change the coin results.
- Toss three coins, six times
Each click tosses three coins: Heads = 3, Tails = 2. Sums become 6 (old yin), 7 (young yang), 8 (young yin), or 9 (old yang). Line 1 is at the bottom.
- Read the primary hexagram
The six lines form the primary hexagram in the King Wen sequence. Read our modern commentary first.
- Read every changing line
Lines valued 6 or 9 are changing. This site shows all of them (all-moving-lines-v1), not a single “main” line only.
- Read the relating hexagram if any
When lines change, a relating hexagram appears. It sketches an associated situation — not a guaranteed future.
